Hume Street Park funds may be allocated to another project.
The September meeting of the Waverton Precinct Committee asked our chair, Ian Grey, to write to the Minister and the Mayor urging the retention of Kelly’s Place Children’s Centre – see previous item.
With his reply, Minister Paul Scully sent a copy of his letter to the Mayor dated 4 September 2026.
In his letter to the Mayor, the Minister says, “The continued public silence of the Council to explain, justify, or defend its decision [not to extend the lease for the Centre beyond 31 December 2026] is untenable.”
He concludes, “Unless I am satisfied that Council is meeting [its commitment to assist Kelly’s Place with appropriate transition arrangements and to support affected families] I will also consider cancelling the Hume Street Park Stage 2 project and allocating the funding to another project.”
