A community workshop on ideas for Waverton Village?

The North Sydney Council calls our little shopping centre the Waverton Village – basically Bay Road between each pair of bus stops.

There’s a YourSay item about it – but we only learned about it on the day of the most recent meeting of the Precinct, on 1 September. Although the YourSay survey was to run for the usual four weeks, it has been extended until 11 October.

It’s a bit hard to know what to say, since there are no plans, no objectives, no issues to resolve, and no budget. Each of us has to have an individual “Say” without knowing what anyone else might be thinking.

The people I’ve talked to about this, including the owners of the major businesses in the Waverton village, think that it’s pretty good as it is, that it doesn’t need roadworks, best kept low key, etc. However there are certainly ideas and issues we could talk about and some actions we might like to take – and some actions we might like the Council to take.

As a result I’ll be asking the Precinct meeting on Tuesday to consider holding a workshop to enable us to come up with some plans. Sam Clark at the Council says he welcomes this and would attend if we wished.

The current idea is to meet on the morning of Thursday 15 October – Loic has offered Le Coq and Fish as a venue – then prepare a report to be discussed at the Precinct’s November meeting.
