Fresh ideas at Waverton Village workshop

Waverton Precinct held the first Waverton Village ideas workshop in 15 October 2026, in the very pleasant environment of Le Coq and Fish restaurant (many thanks, Loic!)

A full report will be sent to the Waverton Precinct mailing list and the Waverton Hub Board.

In the meantime, some initial highlights.

  • The consensus was that we like it as it is – no-one called for major works in the public domain.
  • Many of us realised that we had overlooked the importance of the little park – due to it not being much used, and not being very usable.
  • We arrived at some exciting concepts of an expanded and improved park becoming much better integrated as the ‘village green’ and being seen as the heart of the neighbourhood centre.
  • We came to see the village as the wider centre of activities from bus shelter to community hall through to Voula’s supermarket.
  • We talked about ways to express this in a more unified way.

It is timely to come to a community view of the Waverton Village, since we might soon see the kind of development wave that happened in the sixties and seventies (for example, the Marquis tower).

If we can agree on what we’d like to change – and what we’d like to stay the same – there is a better chance that urban development and density can also deliver better public spaces and community resources.

We’ll discuss the report and the next steps at the open meeting of the Precinct Committee on 3 November.

Our AGM in December is also a gathering for informal discussion of this and other Waverton issues.
