Waverton Precinct is responding to the North Sydney Council’s announced intention to fund public domain improvements in Waverton Village in the NSC next budget.
We’re actively involving residents and businesses in a plan for Waverton Village – and ebike parking is already being considered for the Waverton Village plan.
Here’s some information as background.
- Last year the NSW Government responded to the latest launch of online digital ebikes.
- The rules and proposed operations are described in a report presented to the Waverton Precinct Committee.
- In July the NSW Government released a report on a trial of geofenced parking bays for ebikes.
The report noted:
“While sharing schemes can provide great transport options for people, there is strong community desire for parking to be better managed and for services to be better integrated with the public transport network. As a result, there was strong support for the initiative… Stakeholders understood that the aim of the pilot was to improve safety and amenity outcomes” (p 10).
The report concluded:
“Dedicated marked parking bays [with geofencing] increase compliant parking, ensure bikes are parked in ways that do not obstruct pedestrian thoroughfares, and complement bike parking facilities for private bikes… A third-party data platform that amalgamates data from operators could provide near-real-time insights on shared bike usage and parking compliance, enabling data-driven decision making on parking locations and capacity” (p 10)
As Waverton residents and businesses continue collaborating on a Waverton Village plan, it is likely that we will be looking for the best place for geofenced parking bays for ebikes, and urging the Council to include that place in the ebike regulations.
